Watford Camera Club Set Subjects 2026-27 Season

Here are the Set Subjects for next season. Images for these MUST have been captured after 1st January 2026 (except Debbie Ram Seeker of Light – see below). Judges will be asked to score higher for those images that best fit the title and description – as well as being good quality. Dates to be confirmed but this will be the running order through the season.

Debbie Ram Seeker of light – Print 1 (3rd September 2026)

This award will be given to the image that the judge believes has the best quality of light. The subject matter is unimportant. The Primary subject should be well/sympathetically lit to bring out the best features & bring it to life. The light source can be artificial or natural or a combination of the two. (These images must have been captured after 1st September 2025)

Mono – PDI 1 (15th October 2026)

Any subject presented in a Monochrome format. This could be Sepia, black and white etc.. as long as only a single tone is used.

Nursery rhymes – Print 2 (10th December 2026)

Illustrate your favourite Nursery rhyme. This can be executed in whatever way you like as long as it is clearly recognisable.

Macro – PDI 2 (11th February 2027)

Macro photography is extreme close-up photography that makes tiny subjects, like insects or flowers, appear life-size or larger on camera, requiring specialized lenses or close-up accessories to achieve high magnification (typically 1:1 or greater) for detailed, often scientific, images. You can use any technique such as focus bracketing/stacking or traditional methods like close-up filters, macro lenses etc.. The subject can be anything you want.

One light – Print 3 (8th April 2027)

Create an image using a single light source. That light source cannot be the sun. The subject matter is completely up to you. Be creative and do something delightful with a flash, light bulb, computer screen or whatever you choose to light your image with.

Geometric shapes - PDI 3 (27th May 2027)

Take an image where geometric shapes are the key component of an image. Abstract shapes, architecture, clothing, whatever delivers strong shapes will work.
